Operation Christmas Child & Shoebox Sunday

Once again Seion will be supporting Samaritan’s Purse’s Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal.  The shoe-boxes need to be covered in Christmas wrapping paper and contain small everyday items and some gifts suitable for a child to enjoy (items and ideas are listed in the Operation Christmas Child leaflet).  A donation of £3 is required to help cover the costs of shipping abroad.

The boxes are sent to children who otherwise would not be having much, if anything, at Christmas.  It is, under certain circumstances, even possible to track your box to know where it was sent (again details of how to do this can be found in the leaflet).

Boxes can be dropped off at Seion Chapel and we will take them to a Samaritans Purse depot.  If you would like to be involved in this project, leaflets are available from Seion or a number of shops and public buildings in Maerdy.  If you are not able to fill a whole box then contributions of items on the list will also be gratefully received.

Please do make sure we receive the boxes by Wednesday 16th November at the latest, as they will be being dropped off that week.  Even better, join us and drop your box(es) off at our ‘Shoebox Sunday’ service at 11am on the 13th November.  This will be an informal all-age service with refreshments, and will include singing, prayer, readings and a craft activity for the children.  We will also watch clips informing us about the Shoebox Appeal.  Our service will be concluded with a short Christian talk from Seion’s pastor.
